growth potential and the presence of an established

private sector. It is estimated that over the next 20

years the population of the country will grow by a

third at a rate of 1.69% per year on an average.

However, the growth in the population aged over

75 years is expected to be in the region of 4% to

5% thereby creating multiple opportunities in the

healthcare sector. There areas requiring investment

would be hospitals, facilities for older people and

support services for the healthcare system.

Another related sector which will prove attractive is

the property segment which caters specifically to

the healthcare area. Over the last five years the ap-

preciation in healthcare properties has been 10.7%

against a return of 7.2% for the overall property mar-

ket.

Mining sector

The resource rich areas of Western Australia,

Queensland and the Northern Territory have been

significant contributors to the national economy.

Rising exports to China and other countries fuelled

a commodity boom. The consistently strong perfor-

mance of this sector paved the way for massive in-

vestments with a corresponding positive effect on

vendor companies.
