Agribusiness is an important part of

the Australian economy and this sector

has shown consistent productivity

gains over the years. The country’s

food and beverage producers enjoy a

strong reputation and its meat, grain,

horticulture,seafood,confectionaryand

beverage industries have established

themselves as manufacturers of high-

quality products.

Australia is reputed for supplying

produce that meets the most stringent

hygiene and safety standards. The

country’s food processors are subject

to stringent quality checks imposed by

government-backed organisations.

The food, beverage and tobacco

manufacturing industry accounted for

$25.4billion in2013-14, a25.5%share

of manufacturing GDP. The importance

of this sector is reinforced by the fact

that it provides employment to about

210,000 workers, which is 22.9% of

the manufacturing labour force.
